Latisse is the first and only drug of its kind, FDA approved for hypotrichosis, or the undergrowth of the eyelashes. It was originally developed over 15 years ago to be used as a topical eyedrop for cataracts. However, it was found that people who were treated with the medication had the side effect of growing longer, thicker eyelashes. In the past few years, it has been tested and approved for topical use to help grow eyelashes.
Latisse is easy to use and is very safe. It is made by Allergan, the same company that created Botox. It is applied to the top eyelashes nightly before bedtime. The typical growth cycle of eyelashes is 6-8 weeks, so you will not see immediate results.
After 2 months, however, you should notice that your eyelashes are fuller and longer than before. You will see the full effect of Latisse at 16 weeks. Common side effects may include redness or mild itching of the eyes. Most people have found that this resolves after they became accustomed to using the product.
